I recently purchased a used (<10K) 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat from a non-Ford dealership. The previous owner did not leave the keyless entry code. I've been told that I can contact Ford and have the code reset to the default, but Ford will charge me $70 for this. I obviously don't want to do this (and think it's ridiculous as well as "highway robbery," but that's another story). I read on this forum/web site that the default code is up under the dash on some earlier year models. I looked in my truck, just to see, but found nothing. Is the code somewhere on the '04 F-150? Can I get it some other way? Any information you can provide is much appreciated.
Also, how do you turn on/off the rear backing sensors?
Check in your owners manual folder. The previous owner could've left the code cards in there. The reverse sensors can be turned off by the quarter sized button on the console by the cigarette lighter. It has a 'P' on it. You can't miss it.
I think my factory code was somewhere in that packet of stuff in with the owners manual. I think the default code will always work and from that you put your own code in...so i am not sure if you need to have it reset, but i may be wrong. if the dealership that the truck originally came from is local you may be able to get them to help you for free.
hang around though someone on this site can porbably give you a 100% solution.
Thanks for the information. Excuse my ignorance, but I have two follow-up questions:
1) Where's the computer module located (e.g., under the hood next to the firewall)?
2) How many digits are in the keyless entry code (so that I'll better know what I'm searching for when looking at the sticker on the computer module)?
I think the computer is behind the seats on the wall.
But on my Mercury, there is a 5 digit code on the computer. That is the "permanent" code. You can punch in that code, followed by the 0/9 button, followed by what 5 digits you want and make your own temp code. But that code is lost during a battery outage and you have to re-enter it.
