right trany fluid 97 psd???
Hey Just need some quick help on which trany fliud to use on a 97 f350 auto thanks got to get it to the shop quick and want to have the fuid when thay do to flush so I know its that right one thakjs J

MERCON. (Often labeled as DEXRON III/MERCON. That's fine.)

The dealers are sometimes the worst about getting this wrong! I don't know if it's because they would prefer to just stock one fluid, or because they figure "hey, newer spec, must be the right stuff for *all* cars and trucks!" but they get it wrong time and time again. This is one of the biggest reasons to do your own tranny flush/fill, because you have to insist that a shop doing it not use Mercon V, and then when they do use Mercon V even though you told them not to, you have to argue until you're blue in the face to convince them it really is the wrong fluid, and they need to put the correct stuff in for you (at their cost.) It's easier to just do it yourself with the right stuff the first time.
