Blown Engine and transmission
I have a new 2001 Escape XLT auto with V6. Yesterday on the highway at 120 KM (70mph), the engine revs went to 6000 without warning and I began to loose speed. The engine cut out and died after about 20 seconds. The result was transmission failure and blown engine. My dealer will fix under warranty, however questions that an event like this could occur (I have 15,000 km/9,000 miles on the vehicle).
Engine oil and trans fluid were both normal levels, and no high temp lights were showing. Anyone else have this trouble? Any clues as to what caused the problem?

I'd say your transmission went south and allowed the engine to over rev and destroy it's self.The quality record for this particular transmission has went down hill ever since Ford turned the Batavia transmission plant production and management over to ZF.
