Anybody have problems with the intial two seconds of starting their truck it seems like it is going to die like the battery is dying out? Thing is that I checked the Batt and it is good. Could it be the starter going out???
Also, just lately upon starting the truck ALL the gauges jump to the opposite end of the gauge for about two seconds before resetting back to the original and normal positions. What is this all about? Could it be related to the problem above?
Thanks for all the help guys? It has been a while since I last visited, but you guys are always so knowledgable and helpful.
How did you check the battery? Did you check it under cranking load? it sounds to me like a weak battery or poor connection(s). High resistance connections at the battery or starter, or ground connection, can cause a drop in available current. The starter requires a pretty high current and anything that limits that will cause slow/weak turn-over.
Winter is a common time for problems to show up. Cold weather will lower a battery's cranking power.
As for the gauges - I believe what you describe is normal. Mine does the same thing. Maybe it has been doing it all along and you have never noticed it until now?
Don't wait so long to visit next time! We might shun you and not offer to help.
WHOA - wait a minute!!
I was WRONG! My gauges do not deflect to full scale then back to normal EXCEPT after disconnecting the battery.
So, this tells me your battery voltage is dropping low enough to cause the electronics to go through "reboot".
Sounds to me like your battery's no-load voltage might be OK, but dies under cranking load.
I'd buy a new battery.
I basically checked the "green eye" of the Batt and assumed all was ok. Didn't think about the connections though. I will check ALL tonight and hopefully it is nothing more. Thanks BrianA.
P.S. Yeah, thanks for letting me off easy this time. Things just got TO CRAZY at home and work. All is good now.
