Well, I'd check and see if the inertia switch reset itself (located under th epassenger kick panel on my '92). If that's not it see if your high pressure pump on the frame rail is running with the key on, it will only do it for a few seconds though might want to get a helper. If it's not the inertia switch, the high pressure pump or the low pressure in-tank pumps, it's time to look at the fuel rail. I've seen fuel pressure regulators and injectors packed with rust before. Good luck with it.
The kick panel is that panel to the right of your feet if you are in the passengers seat. It is below the glove box and you will kick it if you're not careful. You pull that panel out and there is a little unit with a red button. If the button has popped up then your truck won't start. You'll have to push it back down and all will be well. Its a safety device so if you fall asleep at the wheel and go off the road and start hitting bumps, it will pop out and shut off the fuel supply to the engine. That way you don't drive off the road going 75 mph and hit a tree while sleeping.
By the way, how did you check your fuel filter? I had to hacksaw mine apart to see inside of it. Don't you just replace the fuel filter? And if it is full of crap does the crap look rusty? Kind of like a fine redish-brown dirt. And if you rub your fingers in it and let it dry your fingers turn yellow? If so then you have a fuel tank that is rusty on the inside and running the tank dry is not good cause it allows the rust to dry and fall off. Once this begins it never ends. You'll have to replace the tank or have it cleaned. I have the same problem with my old 72 Ford truck. Rust has plugged my fuel system up twice now. The first time I thought it was just dirt from being an old truck. Then two weeks later it happens again and I knew it was rust. It just so happened right after I let the tank run dry.
the kick panel is the plastic panel down by your feet that runs parallel to the door panel. there will be a red button on the inertia switch. If its popped out then just push it back in.
