302 bearings

is it common for rod bearings to go out on the 302's. i have a clunking noise at startup and people say its the rod bearings. but its only at startup.

might not be getting sufficiant oil pressure at start up to get oil to the lifters in time.

Post your truck year and model also.
Might be a year specific issue.

How many miles on the engine? I have two 302s that do that when you start them cold. A lot of small blocks with miles on them do that. However does this only happen when cold? If its all the time then you might want to look into checking the bearings.

its main bearings.theyll go for years like that.
