I have only heard one individual say he burned and swelled a tip, then on removal he pulled the tip off. I have also heard and seen pics where they destroyed Beru tips by using ether with a too far advanced engine. Rare but I guess if you try hard enough you can kill anything......even a Beru.

Absolutely. Somebody did tests on them out of the engine and found that the Autolites cosistently swelled the tips and broke, and some others weren't much better. The Berus were found to be the best. It's been a long time but since then many people continue to find this out the hard way
