Question?? Suggestions requested!!

I've purchaced a Gibson (Extream Dual Exaust) for my 02 Supercab (5.4 -F150). Well my wife ordered it for me for Christmas. I wanted the a system with a rear exit, When my wife ordered the system they asked if I pull a trailer. I pull my boat and my snowmobiles only. I pull my boat a few weekends a year and the same for my sleds. The sales rep sold my wife a side exit. With the amount of towing I do does it really matter if I have a rear exit system?

Also, I've read that to use a rear exit 'Gibson' system the spare tire (16" or larger) has to be removed. Does anyone know anything about this.

Maybe Gibson isn't the system I want to go with. I want an quality Stainless steel exaust. Any Suggestions ? I looked into Borla, but I'm up in the Mpls area and have no dealers around.

The rep was correct. You should not run with rear exit if you tow. Not only will the exhaust soot end up on what you are towing (and the smell), but also the heat from the exhaust can do damage to whatever you are towing. I am not sure about the spare tire provision. It is very rare to find a dual system that allows you to keep the spare AFAIK. The Gibson is definately a quality system. I have run both their aluminized and stainless systems, and both held up very well. I will probably go with Gibson again when I change exhaust systems on my 04 F150.

The only way that the heat will damage what you are towing is it it is in contact with the pipes. You can put your hand about 4 inches back from the exhaust and it will be warm, but no where near hot enough to do damage. The only drawback will be soot accumulation after many, many, many miles of driving. I went to a local exhaust shop and my factory spare is still in place with duals straight out the back. No problems yet.

Wicky, you're probably right. But I wonder how hot the exhaust would be coming out of the pipes after an hour or so at 60+ mph. Also, would the exhaust velocity be higher at high speed? Would this cause the exhaust to travel further from the pipes end before dissipating? I don't know. These ? just popped into my head. Anybody have any ideas??? Thanks and good luck.

Never heard of anyone scorching or overheating any part of a trailer while towing. Too much wind/distance for that to happen. I could see the soot problem developing with diesel or oil burner/smoker.
