Can I remove the second cat??

Anyone done this?? I was just gonna cut it off and run a pipe back to the muffler. Would it smell bad and would I gain anything from this, like a louder/better performing truck??

Unless it's stopped up restricting exhaust flow, you won't gain anything by removing it. It's also illegal...

I have not removed either converter on my truck, however I did remove all the stock exhaust from the second converter back. It has been replaced with 3" pipe and no muffler. The truck is surprisingly quiet for no muffler and has improved throttle response and improved mileage. The overall performance has noticeably improved. If you're looking for a good exhaust sound this has it. I had a 3" Flowmaster cat back single exhaust with a 70 series muffler (the quietest one they make) which sounded OK but barely audible. The straight pipe is marginally louder but deeper, it's a keeper set up in my book.

If you really want to do it right, you can replace everything after the manifolds with a y-pipe with one high flow cat (which is legal) and one of the popular cat-back systems. If you're in an area with vehicle inspection you will want one with mufflers in it as mechanics will rarely pass a truck w/o mufflers. I wouldn't go too big with the exhaust though as at low speeds you will have worse throttle response and throw gas out the tail pipe because of the lack of back pressure.

My exhaust shop made me one for 30 bucks, I don't think you will be looking at to much money to have it done.
