I am tempted to get DesignTech 50 Watt Halogen Super Bright Back-Up Bulbs for my Ranger, but am worried about the wattage. Being 50 watts, will these pose any problems with heat or wiring? Here is the manufacturer website link: DesignTech
Well they say they will fit, I have seen that type of bulb burn up a tail light. But since backup lights are only on for a brief period of time I wouldn't think they would be a problem. Do you really need to see better backing up? I would think about a light/roll bar with lights and one pointing back wired into the backup lights if needed. A little more money but so much cooler.

Thanks for the info, Dave. I do need to see fairly well because I have no lights anywhere around or inside my garage I back into. But, now that you mention it, I probably don't need to see Halogen good. I'm using some replacement bulbs that are silver tipped I got from ebay, which are not bright at all. I think I will not risk the possible problems with the Halogen bulbs and go back to a stock clear 3156 bulb.
My biggest problem right now is finding a 3156 amber or red bulb. I'd like to have similar to the Sylvania SilverStar 3157 which is white, but amber when lit.
