94 RANGER EXHAUST TUBE TO AIRBOX
My 94 4.0 ranger has a duct from the exhaust manifold to the air intake duct which has been preventing me from installing cold air induction. I've been told this is an air heating device, but i am concerned that this also might act as my egr system and that eliminating it might render my truck non emissions legal. Can this duct be eliminated

I can answer your question but will need more detailed info. on this duct off the exhaust manifold. Is the duct flexible cardboard or platis or metal? At exactly what point does it enter the air intake{before filter, after filter, mass air flow, etc.}? Are there any devices on the duct? At the exhaust manifold, does it hook to just a heat shield or a check valve fitting? If it based on the older car setup for heated air,it will not harm any emmisions after the truck has warmed up.You can probably adapt it to the induction system just for looks if underhood inspections will be done.Let us know.

That is in fact ur EGR tube, and yes it will affect emissions and the way it runs. I had to replace the one on my ranger because it got a 5 inch crack in it and leaked exhaust gases which made it sound like i had a valve lifter tapping, but anyways if you eliminate this you will lose power and also lose gas mileage by bout 7 miles to the gallon.

This part has nothing to do with EGR. The tube runs off the exhaust manifold but does not carry any exhaust gasses only heat. This heat tube is connected to a vacuum actuated door in the air inlet before the air filter. The purpose of this device is to help the engine run better in cold weather and to help insure more consistent air intake temperature.
