Just recently, my temperature gauge for my coolant system never moves past the hash mark above C. The normal operating reading is normally a quarter past the mark. Does anyone know what has caused the reading to be so low. My heater is working fine.
Could be your thermostat. Mine did the same thing, one trip in 35 degree weather the gauge barely hit the C. There was still heat coming out, but it had to be kept on high. Changed the thermostat and now the temp gauge goes to middle, and I have to turn the heat down after a few minutes.
Another possibility could be the sending unit for the temp gauge.
Mine did the same thing. The reading never went off of cold, but I had plenty of heat, then the other week it just overheated all of a sudden. The coolant was being blown into the resevoir and there was extreme pressure in the system. When I changed the thermostat I found out that the spring valve was mechanically frozen shut, so was the air bleed valve at the top. New thermostat and no problems, gauge reads dead in the middle.
I would definitely check/replace the thermostat. My gauge was reading like that ever since I bought my truck, which leads me to think that it has always had a problem with the thermostat, and I would hate for your truck to leave you stuck somewhere. Good Luck
T-stat is fine. Plenty of heat, upper hose is HOT, gauge moves a smidgen only. Passed inspection, so it's not running so cool to cause excess emissions.
Sender tested with proper resistance. Tested at 31.07ish Ohms (10 to 75 Ohms is proper depending on coolant temp).
Mine has been that way since I bought the truck in March 03, so maybe I will change the 'stat...who knows. The heat will roast me, but I have had to wait a good while for it to *really* get it on.
Funny thing, though....my swapped-in tach cluster ammeter sometimes sticks towards the upper corner of the cluster (quick tap sets things straight).....stupid stuff, but the tach looks nice and the Haynes showed me how to pop the gagues out so I could swap in the proper odo reading into my truck tach cluster.
