K...so my laptop today was acting really slow, so i restarted it. A warning pops up that hard disc failure is iminent and i should back up my work immediatly. Goes forward to start up and now windows won't start up. Safe mode won't start up either, it gets about halfway started up and shuts down, then goes back to windows start up screen saying that it failed to start properly. I'm not so worried about getting it working again cause its under warranty and i'll just send it in, but i'm hopin somebody can help me out get my stuff off the harddrive, ie. pictures, letters, ect. Anyone got any ideas????
Take it to a local PC shop and see if there is anyone in the area that can recover the data. It will cost $$ tho. You will learn the reason for periodic backups.
I'm afraid Torque is right...there are companys that can retrieve data that is lost - even on hard drives that are completely destroyed sometimes. But if your drive won't even spin up and start that's a problem I can't help you with. You need to call the pros.
It might be that the computer shop can get windows to load and still save the data...you'll have to explain the situation to them.
I'm a computer tech. There are some recovewry packages out there to restore your data, but they are expensive and hard to use. Take it to a really good local shop, and stay with them, they will have to ask you what is important and what is not. Then send in your laptop. Don't let the local guys break any seal saying "Warranty voided if seal is broken".
