I have a 2002 F250 4x4 and yesterday noticed a puddle of oil under truck so checked the oil and it was about a quart low so i put it in to get me home. When I got home noticed that it leaving trail of oil. The oil appears to be on the driver side and down toward the oil pan region. I have looked around the filter and did not see oil flowing out of it. Checked the oil filter for tightness it was good. The appartently went back and hit the drive shaft and through oil all over the frame rail and the trailer i was towing. When I checked the oil this morning it was not showing any on the dipstick. Does anybody have any suggestion on where to look and what i can do to fix the problem. Thanks.
Check at the front & rear of each cylinder head. I used to service a fleet of PSD Ford vans, and every one of them developed a leak at the oil gallery plug on the cylinder head. There are 2 plugs on each head--one facing forward and one facing backward. They are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter, with a 1/2" square hole in them for a 1/2" ratchet to fit in. They screw into the head and have an O-ring on them. The O-rings go bad, and then they leak a load of oil. You can get replacement plugs from your Ford dealer--The one across the street from my shop always has a few on hand.
These vans were 98, 99, & 2000 models--I assume that the later ones are still made the same way.
