Front axle not engaging

Hi Guys and gals
I pretty sure this has come up in the past but I would like to ask.

My 96 F350 4x4 crew cab SRW w/460 (not heavyduty) is having problems engagaing the front axle. Neither in 4hi or 4low. I don't know which axle it is since this is my first 4x4 Ford truck. I do hear a heavy clunk (every once and a while) like it wants to engage but doesn't. I think it maybe the hubs but not sure. If it is the hubs, does anyone make manual hubs for this truck?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated for this newbe more or less.
Thanks
Eric Adams

P.S. My F350 also has a dually convertion kit on it. Not a good one but it's on there.

Front axle is a Dana 60. Transfer case is a Borg Warner 13-56. Yes, the automatic hubs can be changed for manuals. Check Warn, Milemarker or Superwinch for manual hub kits. Not sure on what is causing the clunking. Does the truck have manual shift or electric shift 4wd (both were offered in these trucks, same t-case)?

It's a shift on the fly type of trans case. After many beers and sitting on my ****, I believe my thoughts about the hubs maybe right. I've been checking other sites I go to. Some of them are saying they had problems with there front axles not engaging. Most were Jeeps though. Maybe it's the cold and the snow we got. Most snow in a long time for this area.

P.S. I have been drinking before I replied to my own thread. Not good, sorry
