Post Changing out dash lights

I'ts been a while since I've changed out mine so if anyone gets stuck it's prob cause I left something out but I'll be by to check up. First off you'll want to do this when you've got a lot of time, a whole saturday wouldnt be bad for doing this your first time. You'll need a rachet set and almost all of the screws are 7mm. If you have the option of being able to turn the passenger air bag on/off you will also need a security star bit. I dont know sizes in those, sorry. You will need it to remove the airbag on/off switch from the back of the dash. There are 3 srews holding it down. I did take them off with a pair of plyers once but very very time consuming, possible but wouldnt recommend it.

First peice of dash to remove is the easiest, around the steering clolumn. It just pops off, no screws or anything.

Second is in the center of the dash. It's the peice of trim that goes around the a/c controls, radio, etc. There are two a/c vents on it, push them both to one side or the other so you can grip the sides of the vent and pop off this peice. Some pictures that might help understand this better are at my car site at http://www.cardomain.com/id/fordkid311 on page two you'll find pics where i put in my cd player and cb. The peice i am talking about is in the middle and painted black now so it stands out. Near the emergency brake there are some things removed that you will not need to remove, it dealt with my cb. This peice that you just poped off has the 4wd shift-on-the-fly control and passenger air bag on/off switch (if equiped). They may both be held down by secruity star screw but i think only the airbag once is. Either way these both need to be detached.

Third is biggest peice. It starts in the center (went around the other peice you just removed) and wraps up over the guage cluster. There are various screws now visible where the peice of trim was just removed. All those holding down the trim need to be removed. Also, above the guage cluster there are 3 screws (i believe) holding this peiece of trim to the last piece, they all need to go.

Fourth may be the trickiest. This one has your control for lights on it. To remove it turn switch to the "headlight on" position and pull the **** out. Now you should see a little hole on the side of the **** near the bottom left, use a screw driver to pop this loose. I think there are a few screws holding down the trim after you remove the "lights" controller. There should also be two screws holding down the trim closer to the steering column, below the guage cluster on each side.

Now you're there basically. I think there are only two screws holding down the instrament panel, remove them. On the back you will see the back of the lights. There are five of them, they are short projections out the back of the panel. All you need to do is twist them to remove. Usually after sitting for a while they are stubborn, mine were, but i assure you they do twist out. Once all the old ones are out, put ALL new ones in even if some aren't burned out yet, unless you want to do this again soon . And you're done. I was asked if i knew about cc control light on the dash, i dont know. If anyone knows that would be helpful.

For re-assembly just take it slow, the first time a did this i had about 10 screws left over because i went fast. It's better to get it right the first time. Good luck and ill be by to check up on problems.
