Is Auto-Climate control broken?

Hey all. I just picked up my '05 Explorer EB. So far, I love it. However, here is my question. I generally will start her up and turn the heat and heatseater on when I get ready to go out. Then I stand outside and support my habit, (I don't smoke in any vehicle). When I get into the truck, it doesnt seem as though anything has happened though. It's not blowing warm air, and the seat isn't warm.

I usually set the internal temp to, say, 70*, and leave it on auto. Once I takeoff and start driving, then I hear the blower kick in and start to circulate air. The seat begins to warm thn also. Why isn't it heating when the truck is at idle, and only when I'm driving? (It still blows when I'm at a stoplight or something, just not on inital warm up in the parking lot or in my garage.)

I've also noted that the AC light stays on, and there is cool, (not cold), air blowing out of the defrost vents. I'm assuming the AC compressor stays on in auto mode regardless, and that the cool air is so the windows won't fog up?

Any help is appreciated. If the system is designed like this for some reason, I'll jsut have to lve w/driving in a cold car until I drive for a whle. (Although it would be the dumbest design of an AutoClimate system I've ever had...lol).

Thanks in advance all,
-My05EddieBauer

Seat warmers don't work until you sit in them. Think fire safety. Depending on how cold it is where you are, your a Longhorn (I hope) and I've seen some interesting weather there lately. What thermostat are you running? Since you've just gotten it, the info may be in your owners manual. Set the auto on 76° not 70° to get more heat. You can always turn it down.

Hey 05EddieBauer.
Auto climate control works a little different from standard air.
The blower will not operate until the heat in the engine reaches a certain temp.
They do this so you dont have cold air blowing on your feet.Defrost position will blow any time hot or cold. The A/C light only indicates that A/C is possible. When the outside temp. is below 35 the A/C light will go out and A/C is no longer available.

Hope that helps.
This info. is also in the owners manual.

I forgot the seat warmers.
They do work without sitting on them. The fire hazzard is taken care of by a 10 min. timer. They turn off after 10 min. Then you need to push the switch again. Also if you have leather seats it takes a long time to heat them.

Sorry, wife's Denali will not work without being in the seat. Delay on blower is correct. '96 Bronco is the newest Ford I've owned. Thanks for additional info.

Thanks for all the replys. It makes since about the engine not being warmed up enough, since I'm only outside for a few minutes. Kind of a bummer though. I will try turning on just the blower w/a higher temp before I switch it back over to auto.

(And yes, I did look in the manual. Well, I skimmed it at least..hehehe).

Thnx Again
