new guy

I'm new to this forum, and am thinking about buying a 91 f350 crew cab (4 dr) 4x4 with the 7.3 diesel. It is in need of some work, wouldn't start today (they say it needs new injectors). It's in pretty rough shape, but looks pretty strong still. I have a couple questions, how hard is it (and at what cost) to change the injectors myself, and is there any common problems with that year, model etc.

I really think I'm just looking for someone to talk me into it, so I can start working on getting my wife to agree to it.

Welcome to FTE. How much do they want for the truck? Do you know any history? How many miles? Did they use coolant additive? Does it turn over?

Here's what I know:

188K miles
It was a work truck (hauling). Has the ball hitch in the middle of the bed. I guess for goose neck trailers. It would turn over, just wouldn't get any fuel. They put a little charcoal fluid in the carb (I think, I'm not a car guy......yet), and it tried to fire. Don't know about the coolant additives. It pretty much looks like they rode it hard (as you would expect from an f350 work truck with that many miles).

They wan't 3,700 for it, but I think I could talk them down to 2k or 2500. Don't those diesels run forever if you take decent care of them? Anyway, just wondering what the thoughts are from you guys that are 'in the know'.

thanks.

IF is a big word.
The problem may be a simple air leak into the fuel system, or it may be a bad lift pump or it may be a bad injection pump.
The no start may also be a bad glow plugs or glow plug controller.

The coolant addative is the biggest issue with the diesel engine.
3700 is a lot for a 90 model that needs lots of work.
