My driver's side door handle's spring is broken and the stupid thing flaps in the wind making a rattle and banging noise. Its also annoying not having any resistance when you open the door. It appears that I have to remove the latch from the inside (which makes sense...duh) but how hard is it to fix the spring? Is it a junkyard item or what?
It broke, the handle is all plastic and the hole the spring goes into breaks after a while. New handle from ford is about $20. It is riveted in, and needs to be riveted back in but since I did not have a big puller I used some carriage bolts (1/4-20 1/2 inch long instead.

Can you take some pictures of yours and explain in more detail about how you went about fixing yours?
Well, I had this same problem last spring. I went to see my buddies at Wendle Ford here in Spokane and bought a new door handle for about $17. I also bought the 1/4" rivets with the black finish. I realized that the shank of the rivet was out of the league of my rivet pullers so I went and rented a rivet puller for something like $8. It's a simple repair that will take you about 30-45 minutes. Oh, make sure you place a rag on the painted surface of the door and fold it over several times. The rivet puller will jump when the shank breaks. Hope this helps.
well as you are aware you gotta pull the interior door panel. The manual windows ***** are held with a torks head screw plus whatever other screws you see. Pull the plastic barrier film up away (duct tape back in if need to), grind the rivet heads off with a dremel and wala its loose. forget how the pieces all fit back but just reverse the process you use to take it off. Like I said a handle is about $20 and I could not find one for my 94 or later except at the dealer. Either rent (harbor freight has a large puller on sale $12 I think) or find some carraige bolt 1/4-20 by 1/2 or 3/4 inch long. Yhese are the round head bolts like in the old bumpers or on electric table saw legs (for size) loctite in place and then adjust as necessary the handle pull. Reassemble the door. The window will be up while you are doing all this.
Actually pretty easy if yopu have some tools (dremel etc).
