Howdy all; Just an update on the TB upgrade. Installed BBK Twin 56mm TB, TPS sensor, EGR valve, egr gasket, egr tube. Give me a week to get data on MPG. I had 13.5 for a year prior to the mod.
At 75mph, 2000rpms, I do not consistently drive 75 mph but when I have I noticed rpms around 22-2,300. Also, I now have "a lot of pedal" left even at 75mph.
The engine is quieter and in my evaluation "smoother" for lack or a better word.
The reasons for this upgrade were:
1. increased mpg- please!
2. increased longevity of engine
Cost: TB 319$-EGR valve 40$- TPS 40$- EGR tube 60$- Labor was: 2 MNF Dolphins vs. Pats plus parking passes
Happy Holidays;

I installed the BBK 56mm twin last spring and love it- It did noticably fatten the power in all ranges. I havent noticed a mpg gain however. My TB know noticably whistles, just curious if you get this as well
whisltes? why would your TB do that? Was the TB certified- new? Sounds like a possible flaw? IS the whistling a symtom waiting to cause a problem? Did you check into what BBK said? Curious as well- hope you get it worked out
Why it whistles ? Very good question. It only does it around the 2200 rpm range. It was brand new and after initial install I jumped on the net and found several articles about TB whistling on Corvette upgrades. I assumed it was normal but never talked with BBK about it. I also have a K&N FIPK installed which might help increase the whistling. Just curious if you where getting the same.
Hmmm- BigRedBronc in this forum has BBK + FIPK and he has not experienced the whislting. Was the FIPK a good upgrade for you? I've read all the pros/cons. Maybe the whistling is not a performance related issue. Do you have a gallery? I had the FIPK last year and was about to install- noticed a missing gasket- returned- it. Now I thinking about this mod.
In all honesty the FIPK works well in cold weather but in the heat of the summer I think you lose HP with it. Luckily for me we have more cold weather than hot. I do have a Edelbrock EFI preformer manifold and camshaft sitting in my garage waiting for install fundage. I think these two parts will really make the TB and FIPK beneficial.
I also tried the twin 56mm TB on my '93 SD Bronco and it whistled to high heaven with the supplied gasket, the stock one and an aftermrket one. It whistled with FIPK in place and without and with the stock air box. The gain in throttle/responsiveness was nada. BBK customer service gave me the runaround and told me that I could have a machine shop chamfer the IAC mounting flanges and then when I was at the shop preparing to do so, I called back to double check their recommendation for depth and shape and they then said that they had previoulsy had a number of flawed castings and NOT to touch it or warranty will be voided. Tech idiot #2 stated that Tech idiot #1 was his underling and no longer worked there. (12 hours later) Long story short, I mailed it back that day and got a full refund. I don't know a thing about the burning bag of dog poo that they also received that day. Honest, officer, I swear.
Installed BBK and K&N Aircharger well over a year ago. No whistling noticed at any RPM at any time. Runs like a champ, and clearly improved throttle response. Bronc jumps at the first tap of the throttle. No noted change in fuel mileage, but I was not looking for that in the first place. The performance upgrade was my goal, and it was well worth it.
Installed the 56mm throttle body(bbk) K n fipk, and just completed the edelbrock upper and lower f/i manifolds crisp clean throttle and whistles 1992 (351)xlt TR
Black, what do you think of the manifold upgrade ? I cant wait to get the cam & manifold put in. Just curious of your impression of it. Was it done together with the TB or seperate ?
Ok, logged a 400 mile trip..no whistling, no improved mpg- I ran all highway at 75-80mpg and she was smooth. Throttle response is improved.
Buzz- the dog poo bit is funny!
It sounds like its hit or miss with the whistling. Go figure. It never really has bothered me. My supplied gasket never really fit well so I trimmed the excess with a razor blade. This could be the cause but since there are others out there with the same issue, its probably not. Anyway I agree it was a good investment and the best add-on other then the Bassani headers.
i have a 95 302. i did the t.b and manifold switch. the results are great. i have also done the following. ford motorsport e-303 cam, pro-m 80 mm mass air flow sensor, complete msd ignition incl. dist. a set of march puleys, fms 24lb. injectors jba headers ,high flow cats and a 3" single exhaust w/ a 40 series muffler. the only drawback was that after all of these changes, the stock computer gets retarded. it can't figure out how to run , some days are better than others. Soooo, i had two get a custom chip burnt and buy 2 hours of dyno time to tune it. the whole deal cost 600. it was well worth it though. she runs awesome.
p.s. iagainsti ,i am curious which cam your throwing in there, because the stock computer has the most probems dealing with that piece. i picked the ford e-303 because it will work with an auto.I called the people at crane and they even said anything more radical and the computer would be useless in trying to run the truck.
Iagaisnti, the upgrades were done separate,#1 super chip and Kn Nfipk #2 msd6a box and billet distributor, msd blaster coil and accel 8.8 wires, # 3 bbk throttle body and dual flowmaster mufflers #4 edelbrock upper and lower #3881 over 2 years. youde have to experience the seat of the pants difference these upgrades have made I installed the super chip not mainly for added hps butt made a differance on transmission shifts(FIRMER) i forget how the stock truck used to be and do not miss it at all TR
I've been adding parts seperatly as well. Not by choice more by the seat of my wallet. It does help give you a perspective of how each part works or doesnt. Glad to hear you like your upgrades, I plan on getting a chip not for shift firmness (I have a transgo installed) but for shift point changes. With my current mods installed the powerband has changed and the tranny seems to shift a little early to enjoy the extra power.
