I have a browser problem. On many web addresses (including FTE) when I go to the site I get an advertisement page first (sometimes it actually shows the site is unavailable) and then a second or two later the browser goes to the actual site. The URL has an advertisers web address before the actual URL I am planning to visit. If I hit back I go to the advertiser and must hit back again to actually go back toa site I wish to see.
I have run Adware, Spybot, an banner block and Norton Anti-virsus. No virsuses and all adware and spy files have been removed. I can't seem to get rid of this "ghost". Any ideas?
I agree w/ Eric. Get the latest version of Firefox, and enable pop-up blocking. I haven't used IE since I picked up Firefox a while back. Works for me, no problems here.
Hey johare,
You may want to find a program called Hijack-This. It is for advanced users since it gives a list of all things found, and you must decide what to remove. Not for the faint of heart, can seriously cause problems if used incorrectly.
I have used it in the past when ad-aware and spybot couldn't find the problem.
Another thing I would suggest doing is make sure you have the latest set of definitions for your current spyware checking software. If you haven't done so, make sure to tell them to check for updates.
Good luck on your quest. If you can't get any of those to work, I'd also suggest stop using IE and switch to FireFox.
I know exactly what you are talking about. Mine has been doing the same thing for the last two days. The URL that shows up is something like WWW.ads234 then a whole bunch of stuff then the page you are trying to get. It was driving me nuts. A few minutes ago I checked my pop-up blocker and switched the setting from medium to high. Problem solved. I run IE with "pop-up blocker" which I downloaded from my ISP. I'm sure any of the better rated blockers will solve the problem.
Those things mess with your registry and can be difficult to remove unless done properly. Do a google search for the advertisers web domain name and you should fine instructions to remove it completely from your computer. Those things usually are installed by clicking 'yes' on a popup or other 'do you want to trust content form this site' windows. Remembe rthat some popups are actually gif/jpg images in the browser window and look like they have 'yes' 'no' 'cancel' buttons but the whole image is a link to malicious crap... always use the 'X' in the top right corner or Alt+F4 to close ANY popups.
Disregard my last reply. It only worked for a few clicks. I used Norton to scan for viruses and checked for updates on the MS website. I'm going to try some of the other ideas listed here now.
furball69, you the man!!
This is the site I found from your Google link: http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6122-0....ssageID=629721
I followed the instructions and it seemed to have done the trick! So far anyway! 250FordTruck, try this site and down load the uninstaller.
Thanks all!
