1988 7.3 injector problems, please help!

Hello!

I have a problem that I was hoping to get some help with. My 1988 7.3 N/A had a very leaky injector (rear passenger). So I went to change it and noticed it was loose. Tightening it didn't solve the leak, so I took it out to replace it. Once the injector was out the copper washer that seals it on the bottom was still in the hole.

After further inspection it appears that the washer is pretty beat up and won't move at all. It's pretty stuck.

Question is; has anyone else had this problem before? how do you get it out? does anyone have ANY suggestions to try?

This is my daily driver and I can't really afford to take it to the shop. Any help at all would be soo great!

Thank you guys, once agian I trust you to help me out.

Get a small steel pick and keep working it. it is probably stuck from carbon being blown back into the precup and leaked past the washer due to the loose injector.
the fuel leak was from the top of the injector under the plastic cap. You will have to replace all of them .. a kit is available from international or an injection shop. Carefully remove the top fuel line, move it carefully to the side, remove the plastic caps, replace the o rings beneath and reinstall new caps and hoses. Time consuming but well worth the work.

There should also be a new crush washer in the kit for the injector ... torque it to 55 lbs/ft

I did try a steel pick last night and didn't have much luck. I really hate to say it, but it looks like a small section of the copper washer was missing and the remaining was expanded under the threads.

The leak was coming from the base of the injector where it threads into the head. It was also coming from the plastic cap. However I didn't figure this until I got off. There was a hole out the back of the cap. Probably all most 1/8 of an inch in diameter. I have no idea what would have caused that.

I'll keep trying the pick some more. I'm afraid to get too aggressive with it cause I don't want it to break and have debri go down that hole to the cylinder.

Thank you very much for the reply! Any others are more than welcome.
