In the winter months and sometimes other parts of the year when its cold out I get a chirping noise coming from behind the dash. Its hard to pinpoint where exactly it is coming from since it only occurs when i am driving.
It increases in speed when i rev the engine higher but slows down again when i get up to speed. I cant tell if its coming from one of the gauges (maybe the tach since the sound changes with the increase in rpms) or from somewhere else in the dash or maybe even something in the engine compartment against the firewall. As far as I can remember it doesnt occur unless i am actually moving. Any ideas because its kind of annoying.
It sounds like it may be the speedometer head or cable. Easiest way to check might be to unhook the cable from the trans and see if it goes away. Permanent fix would be to unhook if from the speedo head and grease/white lube the cable end and head.
If the noise seems to be coming from the rear of the intake, then you have the dreaded cam sensor squeek. Some people have been able to remove the sensor and work some oil down the shaft (simular to the distributor shaft of old engines). I had to remove mine and grease it, buy a special tool and time the sensor.. A lot of work if you don't know what you are doing; and Ford charges an arm and a leg
