96 Ranger automatic transmission
This truck is an XLT, extended cab, 4.0 liter, 4x4, with 48,000 miles. My problem is the aggravating "clunk" as it slows to a stop. The local Ford dealer has had the auto trans out and completely serviced. They say they've checked everything, tightened everything as much as specs will allow, and all looks good. They've checked u-joints. They test-drove drove it and acknowledge the problem. The only thing they can tell me is the drive train combination on this truck sometimes has this amount of slack.
Well I tell you, it's aggravating enough for me to consider getting rid of the truck. Its too bad because I like the rig otherwise. Anybody got any advise or a solution?

Your truck is a 96. This forum is for 97 and newer FULL SIZE trucks. Your truck is also a Ranger, therefore, post the question in our small chassis section and you're likely to get an answer.
