Custom length drag link for 54?
The stock steering box on my 54 F100 has been moved rearward about 6 inches. The previous owner fabricated a drag link to accomodate this additional length, but I don't like the look of it and am concerned about it's safety. How/where does one do this correctly? Buy a stock one for the ends and have a local machine shop lengthen it? Please advise...

I'd have a good welding/race car fabrication shop lengthen a stock one. have them use a matching size piece of tubing, plug weld a 4" snug fitting piece of tubing or rod insert inside across each splice. Have them V grind the outer joints and fill them with a tig weld. If they are any good at what they do, you'll be able to grind it smooth paint it up and it'll look stock. Be sure the leave the slight bend in the link, it's supposed to be there!
