Driving on ice

We just had a little winter weather in eastern NC, and I had the opportunity to drive my Screw on the ice. My commute is just under 19 miles each way, and I had no trouble with the slick stuff. There were a lot of cars in the ditch, further evidence of the inexperience in this area with winter weather, but I couldn't be happier with the way my truck took to the stuff. The easy throttle tip in they have programmed into the trucks really makes sense when you see others spinning and sliding. Never used 4WD because I didn't need it. Needless to say, I was drafted to drive for lunch.

I know what you mean. I had my first couple inches of snow. I wanted to go spin around side streets then try it in 4WD. The problem is the truck was like a tank. In fresh snow, it wouldn't spin or slide around. I drove around in 2WD, it felt like there wasn't any snow at all. I guess thats why I bought a Ford.

What tires do you guys have? Because I keep hearing bad reviews about the 18" BFG's that come on our trucks. I have them but I have yet to drive in snow/ice.

same thing here in maryland...there was a car off the road every half mile, but i never even felt a slick spot. this is my first 4x4 and I am very impressed so far with its perfomance on ice. It was almost no fun to drive it handled so well

Don't y'all usu have snow during the winter thought?...like every year? How are these people managing to never learn? We get snow here MAYBE once a year & then it is only like ½" & ppl still manage to slide intp the rear of someone else. We haven't had snow here in so long that I've never driven in it...how sad

I keep waiting for the snow to fall. Supposed to happen today. We'll see how it goes, especially with some of the 'bad reviews' I have read about the 18" BFG's that have been posted. I had off road in a limited basis without a problem. Just waiting on the snow now. I hope my experience is as good as all of you.

I live in Colorado and the 18" BFG's that came stock on the truck have done just fine in a couple of bigger snowstorms out here so long as you're in 4x4. In 2wd the truck had a tendency to slide on the corners. I've also noticed some increased turning radiuses with over 1" of snow on the road. I had a set of BFG All Terrian's on my last Jeep that were much better in the deep stuff. I don't think the stock tires are bad for most road conditions but if you live where it snows a bunch you may want some better treads.

I had my first opportunity to try my new 4X2 STX today in some significant snow, we've gotten about a foot of white stuff since this AM. I have the 3.73 LS differential and I don't know if I'd even bothered with 4 wheel drive if I had it, truck handled wonderfully just as it was. This truck continues to live up to my expectations in every way.

I also had my frist time experiance driving in the snow today! A little over a foot of snow so far today and my XLT Supercrew 2wd 3.55LS handled it like butter!!! I wasn't even worried at all about sliding off the road or getting stuck! This truck will go through anything!! I am so excited about how good this truck handled for me today in all this snow!!

I just drove home from work (25 miles) on roads with 1 inch of Ice on them and my truck drove great on the stuff. I dont even have a limited slip rear end and did'nt need one either. I really believe the weight of these trucks has a big influence on how well they handle slick conditions. I also have the BFG longtrails on my 4X2. Great truck on ice and snow.

I also drove around in snow and ice all day here in Kentucky and had no problems. I'm very impressed with the way my Fx4 handled.

I've got the BFGs, but my dad has the Goodyear A/T on his 250SD Powerstroke, and they have done really well in winter weather, probably better in deep snow than the BFG will do. The larger lug spacing should clean more readily. I suspest that the relatively close spacing on the BFGs is the reason some people have had a little trouble in deep powder. We only had 2" of snow, on top of a layer of ice.
