We fill up both sides of the press with plates. There is also space in the middle to stack them on top of the other. We then take an olympic bar loaded across the machine as well. Its not exactly the safest thing to do, but when you need more weight one must improvise. Since my neck injury I cant do free bench presses except on a smith machine. I usually use 120lb dumbs for chest, 90's for shoulders (havent been able to do heavy reps over head since injury).

32 plates???? my best on leg press is 840 pounds i think. my legs are my weakest link. there was a high school kid i hear about who would load the machine, and have 2 kids sit on it also. it would be nice to have those genetics.

I like smith machines, sounds like what happens to me sometimes, bar placement restricting blood flow to the affected arm.I simply put it in a different spot.I like to lay the bar a little lower, across my traps.Everybody is different, that's why what works for one may not work for others. Here on the rig we have a Body Solid machine which works like a smith.I squat 400# with bad knees and a bad back with no problems. But i find if it uncomfortable,I just reposition a little.
