differences in frames...

i was told that the frames for 1/2, 3/4 and 1 tons in the 80's and early to mid 90's are the same frame all the way around...is there any truth to this or is it hogwash?? if there are differences, what are they??

I just worked on a 1989 f250, and the frame looked just like my 1980 f150, except it didn't have the large holes about midway punched in the side rails. I have heard of thicker guages and so forth, but I didn't see much difference.

Not to sure about the thincknesses, but you can pretty well inchange any part bolted to the frame between models.

this i'm glad to know, because i'm considering getting dana 60 front and rear axles and throwing them under my 84 f-150, rather than dink around with the 8.8" rear end and IFS POS that the truck came with...want a good solid axle base for my truck...i'm hard on things and want something that will hold up well...
