Back in the Saddle
I've been gone from these forums since June when I sold my 66 3/4 ton.
But I'm back!
Here's what happened. About 5 years ago I asked my neighbor about his late 60's Ford pickup in his carport. He said he wanted to restore it but would have to ask his son about it, and He'd get back to me. He never did.
I haven't seen the Old Man around lately so when I saw the son two weeks ago and asked how the Old Man. He had passed away and the son was cleaning out the place. I asked about the truck and he said "I don't know how long it's been sitting, but I need it gone! If you want it it's yours! " I nearly passed out! I squeeked "OK", we shook on it and it was a done deal.
To make a long story short, it's a 1 owner unmolested 69 F250 Camper Special 2wd with Ranger trim, a 360 and NP435. It's 99.8% rust free and was repainted along time ago. Everything works, including the AM (no pushbuttons) radio. It had the 5 split rims and dryrotted tires on it, but he said he had some "other wheels in the shed" he'd give me. I pulled it home (about 1 block) and spent the day oiling, changing fluids, etc and it fired up! I'm now working on the brakes and hope to have a daily driver in the next couple of weeks.
So...I'll around 67-72, the Colorado and the FE forums alot now. Look out MIKE G, I may get my project finished before yours!

I always knew that good things happen to good people! Congrats on your new toy, that is one nice lookin' ride perfect for a starting spot. Take a look at my updated photos, you are already way ahead of me in the completion phase
Looks like we can start "shopping" over lunch time again. --Mike
Man, I've bought 2 trucks that weren't much if any better than that. And they both cost over $3k!
in the background, hear the Rod Stewart song "Some guys have all the luck" :-)
Congrats! You have a great find there.
Great pics! Thanks for posting 'em.
I'll race you for pink slips this week! But, once you get that new mill fired up (I'll supply refreshing beverages for all attendees at the first fire-up) ALL BETS ARE OFF!! Your doin' it right! Can't wait to drive these things around!

You're one of the many "class acts" on this site and you've helped me on several projects with your patient and knowledge posts.
Thanks for the "disgusting" compliment. I can't post ANY of the comments I've received from my motorhead friends, the Moderator would edit them all out. Let's just say I've found out lots of things about my parents that I didn't know before I got this truck.
Yes, "Some guys have all the luck". I finally found out what that's like. I've never stumbled into something like this and man it was worth the wait!

thanks for the "Class Act" compliment. I guess you've missed most of my post beer or post margarita forum entries :-) never drink and surf.
My "disgust" is just jealousy. Anyway, it sounds like the truck fell into appreciative hands.

I agree with that brake comment. The truck did sit for a very long time, under a carport so the paint, interior are all solid. But as you'd expect, all the gas lines were gummed up solid, the fuel pump and carb had no gaskets or seals left. The gas tanks will need to be professionally cleaned or replaced. All the rubber, including the tires that came on the split rims, is dry-rotted.
I also got chunks of rust out of the rear brake lines, and the master cylinder was dry, so a complete brake system replacement is in order.
Thanks for the encouragement.
