Are alternators interchangeable?
I have a 99 F250 with a 5.4L, the alternator constantly makes a low pitched whining noise but it is charging ok. Since it is charging I'd rather not spend the $$ for a new one, but I'd like the noise to go away. I know where I can get a low priced alternator from a wrecked low milege 2003 F150 with a 4.6L. I think the amp ratings are different but the mounting bolts and wiring look the same. Are these 2 alternators interchangeable?
