Ok today i was driving my truck, 92' f-150 5.0L v8, and had been driving for like 20-30 min with a few stops along the way, and as i was almost home the check engine light came on for a few seconds, and went off. there is no short in the dash i know this. any ideas on what might be going on, oil is good and so are my coolants.
You should check for trouble codes. Even if the light goes off, there are codes in memory. See how to at www.fordfuelinjection.com under getting trouble codes. Its easy and free. Also a Haynes manual has a ECC trouble codes section. Let us know your codes. If the engine light is on Autozone will check for trouble codes for free.
Merry Christmas,
mike
Mike L: Just want to thank you for the heads-up to that URL. I've read about pulling codes on my truck before, but it was all text based, and confused the heck out of me.
That site makes it easy enough for a dummy like me to follow along with.
You have it easy my truck didn't come with a engine check light on my 1987 F150. I had to use a volt meter and count the sweeps instead of the blinks. If your not sure what the codes are when counting the blinks, post the blinks like this I IIIII IIII IIIIII I II III I III II III. Is your truck running ok? Maybe all you will see is your fuel milage which is much worse.
