Well, as of late, I've been having some serious loss in fuel milage. I was running about 460-480mi/tank and am now barely scraping by to 400. At first I thought, Okay, it's coming up on the 15k service, so maybe I just need new fuel filters. So, I take the truck in for it's service, oil change, fuel filters, tires balanced and rotated. Still not getting any better milage. Hmm??
I've been running about 18mpg with the Diablo 65hp tune on her for the last 6-7k miles. But lately, as in the last month or so, I'm down to just over 14. I do have the Zoodad mod done, but there is nothing that I can see stuck in the filter. The filter minder is still showing no restriction either. So, I'm at a loss.
Anyone have anymore ideas? Mods are listed below in the sig. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
The only other prob my truck has is a rough idle at startup with gobs of smoke. But, after holding the pedal to about 1k rpm for a sec, it goes away.
I think it's the crazy Ford techs putting too much oil in my truck.
i live in florida and we have had a few cold spells i have noticed a drop in MPG but i also had my truck flashed last month but i didnt notice a drop til it got cold im starting to get the same MPG i got last yr in jan-april i have 21000 miles on it
still runs real rough on starts and puts and sputters when in drive at redlights like it wants to stall dealer said last flash was supposed to fix it
I dont think we even get #2 diesel around here didnt think it gets cold enough
The truck stop I filled up at last night said they were using #2 winter blend. That, and it's been in the 20's-30's when I get up in the morning to come to work. So, I'm guessing that's what's causing it.
I ran a datalog with my Predator last night on my way home just to see what my fuel system was doing. Everything looked fine from what I could tell. Nothing really out of the ordinary.
So, I guess that's why everyone is dropping the price of Diesel now. You're going to be spending more a month filling up anyway. So it's really no different than having summer fuel and paying $2/gal anyway.....commies.
#2 diesel is the normal diesel fuel available in summertime and warmer climates. #1 diesel is the more refined diesel blend for use in the winter. Your local supplier may even offer a #1/#2 blend in climate that do not see severe cold temps.
I would not run #2 diesel in temps below 10ºF without any diesel fuel supplement with anti-gel additives. Even then, I probably wouldn't trust it #2 even with additive below -10ºF. The additive companies state about a 30ºF reduction in the cold filter plugging point, but I would hate to gamble a tow and repair bill if I was going to be close to this point. I personally run #1 diesel with fuel additives for lubricity when temps are below 10ºF.
Resqdog, Since you're living in a warmer climate than the rest of us, you might want to canvas your local service stations for one that's not pumping winter blend. Most of the truck stops anywhere order winter blend because most of their patrons are running cross country through colder temperatures. I'll bet you can find someone that's still pumping good ole summer blend. It's still available here in the northwest at Atlantic Richfield and Unocal stations.
Yea, that's a good idea. My only problem with that though...is that those service stations do not have a good turn over rate on the fuel. I've already experienced this before by having to empty almost a cup of water from my HFCM. I'll never buy fuel from them again, to say the least.
But, I'll look around and see what I can find. There are still a few more high turn over rate stations locally around the base here....I'm sure one of them might be selling standard fuel.
