my dealer keeps talking about flat spotting on tires. Is this a cheap tire issue....i have never had this happen on any other tires like a Michelin or something.
i know this was discussed in an earlier thread...but the issue was whether or not flat spotting really existed, the thread never seemed to cover if it was a quality issue or not.
Every 150 with General tires, including mine thats on my dealers lot, get flat spots when sitting. Sure they work out in a few miles, but not appreciated.. I thought I was driving with tires from the 50's on. Don't know if any other brand have this poblem.. General's suck...If you test drive one with General's that's been sitting a long time, you almost can't hold on to the steering wheel. When I test drove mine they must have warmed the tires up because I did not notice anything. Oh! got a new set (warranty), better but still flat spots..Yea General..Ford knows ther is a problem, that's why they extended the warranty..
I just got my truck back from the dealer last week about this. I took it in because my stearing wheel felt like it was going to fall of due to how much it was vibrating on me at highway speeds. They found out, 2 of my tires had flat spots, they took them off and replaced the 2 tires the very same day! PERFACT! no vibration at all!! I don't know if this is common, I'm a frist time truck buyer and don't know to much about the history.
I purchased a 2004 Screw XLT 4X4 in September that had General tires. When I test drove it it had a bad vibration too. I told the salesman and told him I'd bring it back as the service shop was closed. After driving it home and checking the tire pressure the next day (they were underinflated by 4 lbs.) I noticed that the vibration was gone. I now have 4200 miles and have a very slight vibration after 80mph. Which very well could be just a balance problem. As far as General tires go I have owned numerous new vehicles with Generals and have purchased replacments and been extremely happy with them. That's not to say that the current Generals that they are installing are not somewhat subpar but this is just my .02 worth. I will have to add that I do rotate my tires and pay close attention to tire pressure as the temperatures change.
