Cool

Well, you have to rewire the top of the old girl, and replace the hoses and wires, etc, and anything else that was damaged.

What caused your fire? Leaking fuel line? My '83 had a dripping carburetor when I got it. It had dripped so long that there was gasoline-like paste under the carb on the intake, and lots more inside the manifold itself. Glad you didn't lose the entire truck. It will be back and running before you know it.

Best of luck!

the fire i think was caused by it back firing and setting some gas in the air cleaner and then burned the air filter. none of the wires bured i think but all the rubber and plastic parts around the carb bured up. what is the best way to remove the the burt on rubber and plastic

I would rebuild the carb to, as that fire can and will fry the gaskets (soaked in gas) in the carb.
