The curved piece of wire is probably the fuel bowl heater. It's supposed to be there. As for the fuel bowl drain, on my '95 it's at the 7 o'clock position when standing in front of the truck, on the outside of the fuel bowl. It's got a yellow tab that you turn 90° clockwise to drain. On your truck, I believe it will be more in the 9 o'clock position.
I hope this helps.
Thanks, I did find the lever and drained the fuel. It drained so slow I didn't think I was doing it right at first. I think you are correct about the heater makes sense. thanks.
a tip... add a piece of 1/4" fuel line to the end of the steel fuel filter drain line ( secure with a clamp) to extend it below the crossmember to keep from making a mess when draining the filter in the future, since this is a regular maint proceedure.
Another tip: if you're changing the filter anyway, drain the bowl after you've opened the lid, and the fuel will flow much faster since air can get to the other side. If you're draining in a WIF-light-induced emergency situation, do *not* open the lid, because it can be next to impossible to get that o-ring to seal again after it swells up.
Thanks I did the hose trick. I had the lid off and it still took about 5-6 minutes to drain, I'm thinking the metal drain tube might be plugged a little.
vancouverpower, you might try opening up the fuel filter drain while the engine is running, the filter will have pressure on it and this will clear the drain valve and line of any debris. make sure to have a catch pan under the drain hose.
cjcathey2002, the fuel filter and fuel water seperator ( same unit ) is on top on the engine, i like to use fleetguard filters, about $15.00 , and i keep a spare with me at all times. this is the only fuel filter.
