Low, dirty fluid and/or clogged filter in the tranny. Does it only happen on the freeway? 'Cause the symptoms sound more like a clogged catalytic converter and the "sizzle" would be the superheated metal in and around the cat after its been running. The clog would be causing undue backpressure in the exhaust system thereby bogging it down. Just a possibility.
