What would be the best sound system to put into a 1996 F-150 that costs between 1000-1500 dollars? The things I was thinking about would be a new deck, 4 new speakers, and one or two subs with amps to accomidate those. It is an extended cab truck. What brand of stuff do you guys reccomend and why?
Hey dude. I'll be watching this thread closely, as I have a '96 F-150 4.9L I-6 as well, standard cab though, and am wanting to do the same. My bro tells me that I should be sticking with JBL, Alpine and possibly Kenwood (after asking him if Infinity, Polk Audio, etc are any good (high volume and low prices on ebay)). But I am not sure what to do as of yet, but should start planning it out. I think the deck is the easiest part of the equation!
Yea, I am thinking an alpine deck, some infinity speakers, and 2 infinity 10'' subs w/built in amps. How many speakers does yours have? Mine has 4, but the ones on that back seem to be a wierd shape. I hope others will provide some more information.
Hey, to put a sound system in a PickUP isn'tthe easiest thing to do. Especially if you don't want to see any cables and ****. I had some JBL Speakes in my old system and I can only recommend them. I spend 1300 Euro (about 1600$$) for my old system in my German car. So you can get some pretty decent stuff for that price. You just have to think about where to install it. You might wanna put it under the rear seat (the amp and the sub) otherwise it'll look stupid. I would get one sub if I were you. YOu only have an extended cab and one GOOD sub does much better work than two for that little room! Plus you'd save a lot of space.
I had good experience with JBL speakers, Panasonic headunit and Velocity (sub). But I just bough some no name dvd player, just because I couldn't afford the expensive Alpines and all that. I'm about to install a DVD system in my expedition. So maybe thats another option you want to think of. Here is the link, where I got my stuff for cheap!

For that kinda money you should be able to get some nice stuff, what features do you want on your head unit, a remote disc changer, monitor, satellite radio, .wav file compatible, how powerful, etc.. Mounting subs in an F150 is really tricky and most people put theirs either under the back seat or, infront of the middle back seat. Are you considering making a box for the subs, or buying one. An easy install for subs would be bazooka tubes, if you have any questions just ask id be happy to help. Oh yeah and crutchfield.com has most the info on speakers, adapeters, etc..
I just bought 4 infinity 6x8s for my truck. One set are the components with the crossover and tweeters and the other set are a coaxle. I payed 180 dollars for both of them brand new I have yet to play with them its too cold. I recommend buying from a respected online company the costs are cheaper. I bought mine from sounddomain.com they beat competitors prices I gave them a price from a website that I didnt know anything about then they beat the price. Crutchfield has the Infinity subs on sale now and the speakers their website is crutchfield.com. Alpines are the best recievers bar none.
