Air Conditioner Problem
I have a 1993 XLT Supercab with a 3.0L V-6 and factory. About a month ago I had a problem with my AC. Whenever I would try to run it on the intermediate temperature setting I would get the smell of hot antifreeze and intermittently a white "smoke" would come out. It did not do this on either full cold or full hot. The problem stopped and I chalked it up to a hot humid Texas summer. The problem resurfaced today (the smell, not the smoke). The coolant level is fine and is looking the appropriate color (it was changed and the radiator flushed this spring). The engine temperature runs in the same range it always does and there is absolutely no evidence of a fluid leak. Interesingly enough the temperature then was the same it is now (in the low 90's). I did not notice this problem in the last weeks when the outside temperature was over 100 deg. The AC does blow cold air. Underhood inspection was unremarkable. Any ideas?

Sounds like the heater core has a slight leak and just has not gotten real noticeable yet. The core cover located behind the glove box is very easy to get to and remove for a look see.

You are right. There actually was a coolant leak today and I had figured out this was about the only place it could be. I pulled the cover off and found that it was the heater core. I have the new one and am just waiting for the engine to cool so I can put the new one in. Thanks.
