Yet another remote start question

I am currently looking at the Autopage RS855 Lcd.
I stopped by local shop and he quotes me $550.00 , so I get home and check Ebay and a couple others and finding them for 150.00 to 175.00 for same unit new.
Am I missing something here ?? I understand charging for install too, but where did this guy come up with 550.00???Are these net dealers leaving something out or are these local shops just trying to Jack me this bad???

Sorry to say they are all this way. When I wanted one for my wifes car nobody would sell me one over the counter for me to install. they wanted $400-$450 installed for a $150 dollar starter. The one place that would sell me one wanted $200s for an infirior starter to what I wanted. I ended up ordering a starter/keyless entery/ alarm for $130 and installed it myself. It takes me about four hours to install them after doing about 5 of them. So if you figure they have $150 in parts the rest is labor and profit. that leaves $350 for four hours of labor. you're paying about $90 an hour to have them install it. It 's kind of a pain the first time but I woudl do it myself if I were you. a slight mechical ability and some research will go along way. research the vehical you have the the starter you want to install before doing it. find wiring diagrams and ect and it will make the job a lot easier. also a good sottering iron sure helps. I've been using INNOTEK starters and have been pretty happy with them for the price. Make sure you get a two way start so it pages you when the vehical starts. these are very handy and generally have a pretty good range. most in this catagory have a small LCD screen that will show the options as they are activated/deactivated.

Good Luck.

Ebay Value v Retail Store price

Something to keep in mind the person selling the alarm on Ebay is providing NO warranty or assistance other than a low price. Often they are selling a product that they bought used or distressed with out the manufactures support. When a reputable retail store sells you an alarm installed they are assuming the warranty for their installation, and will work with the manufacture to support the product. A fair retail mark up for security is cost $150 retail $249.99 installation $260. (65 per hr at 4 hrs average) Also depending on the brand you may need a timer circuit to delay start till the glow plugs warm up $30.00. So a installed price of $500. is not out of line by any stretch of the imagination! Would you go to a dentist for open heart surgery? I would not attempt to install my own remote start in my new $50 k rig without many years of training!
All of that said ebay is great for some items but something as complex as remote start I would leave for the professionals. I realize some will disagree with my view to each his own.<O></O>

PROTINT - I would disagree, The starters we've been buying are brand new from the manufacturer, I don't get mine off of ebay. 5 of these have been installed and had no major problems with any of the units. Yeh the first one took me most of the day but the second was shortened buy at least three hours due to just knowing what tools, wire conectors and wiring diagrams were going to be needed ahead of time. Matter of fact a friend of mine and myself will be installing 4 more over new years weekend for 2 family members and two of my buddies. I told them $250+- cash and that leaves me at about $25 per hour. so far all five have been different vehicals and I'm about to add four more different ones to the list.I think anyone with some basic wiring and mechanical ability can install these as long as you do you're research. The guy thats helping me put one in his brothers 03 SD Crew Cab Lariat 6.0 Diesel and said it was the easiest he had done. took a little over three hours.

Hello,
I have an Innotek two-way remote starter in my vehicle and it will not start the engine. I believe it needs to be re-initialized and the remote re-programmed. This is the only site on which I've found any mention of the product.
I've read, re-read and read the instructions again. I am following the directions, but I can't make it work other than occassionally.
Anyone have a quick and dirty on how to re-program the rotten thing?
Denise
