you can adjust only by hand. jumping the belt a cog or two.
to check it, there should be a rubber plug in the middle of the outer timing cover that you can pull out and check the mark on the cam gear. make sure they both line up. the auxillery gear does not need to be lined up

the only pulley with a mark is the crankshaft pulley, which is the little notche. look on the outer timing cover above the pulley and you will see the numbers and letters. line the notch up with TDC on the outer timing cover. now pull that rubber plug out on the outer timing cover and you will see the camshaft gear. there should be a triangle on the gear itself that lines up with the mark on the INNER timing cover. so the two marks should be lined up for proper timing. they are there to let you know when the number one piston is at TDC (top dead center) and the valves are in the appropriate position.
