Tranny and 4wd ?
Tranny and 4wd ?
I have asked this tranny question before but now I am also getting the same problem under load. The tranny in my 00' 250 SC LB hangs between 3rd and 4th. I was up around 2500 rpm's b4 it went to 4th and only had about 750 lbs in the box.
The engine and tranny were warm, I had gone approx. 25 miles with it before loading. Accelerating at medium pedal and the temp outside was -15 C . Just did the 100 000 k service and the dealership said all was fine.
My other problem is 4wd. When I shift into 4wd the light comes on but it doesn't engage. I can only get it to engage when I manually lock the hubs. I read somewhere here I believe that if the vacuum fails then defrost is all you get inside the cab. Cab works fine so I was wondering what you folks think ?

When you say the tranny hangs between 3rd and 4th do mean it stays in third for a long time before it shifts into 4th?
As far as your 4wd not engaging with out you having to lock in the hubs I would say that it could be your seals on your axle stubs leaking. That was what was wrong with mine.

Sorry for the late reply, I was unprepared for Xmas again... yea it stays in third and feels like it wants to shift but won't. Thx for the info on the seals I'll look into that .
