2002 Ranger 4x4, No drive or reverse. Was -2 degrees this morning, let it warm up and drove to work, about a 1/2 mile got to the parking lot and it wouldn't go. Looked outside and red fluid running all over parking lot. Pushed into a spot and there it sits. Did a hose come off. It has 38K miles on it
I would add some ATF, start it, set the ebrake, and crawl under and look for the source. Odds are you can also add enough fluid to it to drive it home; it just sounds like it's gonna make a mess wherever it's parked.
It was cold this morning, I ran to go start my truck with out a jacket... Since you 3yr/36k warrenty is up did you purchases an extended warrenty... if you did just get it to the dealer make them fix it, some warrenties they'll pay for towing too. otherwise your best bet is to check it like Bill said. I had that happen to an old car of mine ('91 Pontiac Grand Prix) in the middle of nowhere, at the shop the said the tranny was blown.
OK I did some more investigating, It seems the trail of tranny fluid starts at the end of the driveway where I put it in drive. There is a trail of fluid all the way to work which is about 6 blocks. I went underneath again and it seems to be coming from a large hose I am not a mecahnic but I think it is for the dip stick. On the pass side there are three hoses two of them are cooler line and then the third is bigger and above the other two. Yes I did purchase the Ford ESP plan up to 100K. I thought if I could get to the dealer without towing that would be great. From where it sits now it is about 2 miles to the dealer. Thank you for the replies.
Well if its only 2 miles try what Billy said fill it up with tranny fluid and go, preferably in the middle of the night when they lights will change quickly, or else get someone that can pull with a tow strap, i did that for a friend, from west Bloomington, MN to south Minneapolis, MN, about 5 miles took about 20 min.
