Im looking at buying a '82 f-100 with a 4.2L V8...i was just wondering how good of an engine this was, and why it only lasted a couple years. also i would like to know some specs: Horsepower, Tourque, and anything else you can tell me, thnx.
The 4.2 is a v-6.
I believe the 4.6 is a v-8. The 4.6 is in the new Modular v-8 family w/ the 5.4 and the V-10.
I don't know if the older tranny's will bolt right up to this new engine. They may not make a bell housing w/ the correct pattern.
The 4.6 is used in Crown Vic, E-150 & F-150 and I think the Mustang as well.
From what I understand, the 4.6 is the economy v-8. Not exactly a truck motor.
