Will not idle
My 1987 3.0 Aerostar will not idle. It starts and will run only if I feather the throttle. Cannot drive it, as soon as I put it in drive it shuts off. I installed another idle air bypass valve but it didn't help. What is wrong????

fitting that has a lot of hoses hooked to it. Make sure you have all of them
hooked up and also check the condition of the hoses. Replace any that are
in poor condition.

You can use a piece of vacuum hose as a vacuum stethoscope to check for the sound of suction. Just hold one end close to your ear, and move the other end around all of the vacuum connections until you hear a leak. Got that from my Haynes or chilton manual.

i just crawled out from under my mothers 92 3.0 aerostar, it had the same problems, the idle wasnt that bad but close, spit and sputtered everywhere she went, i went over everything i could find on this site and then some, so in a last ditch effort i changed the plugs(again) and wires....i took off the dist.cap and behold....all 6 contacts had about 1/16" of crude on em...cleaned em up and its running like a champ.......after hearing all the horror stories on here about how hard it is to change the plugs i was scared....but i turned out not to be a big deal after all, i just popped the wires(noting where they went) off the plugs and pulled the dist. cap out wires and all, marked the cylinder numbers on the side of the cap, matched up the wires, changed the plugs and she is home free.......
