Hard Start

My F250 has a really hard time starting when the weather gets colder, and it smells like diesel after cranking it over a few times before it finally starts. I noticed diesel leaking from the water bypass tude off of the filter housing, but there is No water in the system. A freind who also has a older (pre-superduty) powerstroke and he said the glow plugs is the problem. I want to make sure before I undertake changing the glow plugs. Any help will be appreciated!!
Oh yea, the truck has 120,000 miles on it.

I doubt all of your glow plugs went out at the same time. Check your glow plug relay. Use a test light on the large terminals. One should be hot all the time, the other should be hot when the key is on. Also check the wiring harness to the GP's.
