I have a 78 F150 4x4 that has a C-6 auto in it. I have puchased a 4 speed from a 78 bronco. My question is will the 4 speed from the bronco go right in the pickup? I know the bronco auto trans has a longer tail stock and center case between the trans and transfer case I was just wandering if the 4 gear is the same. Also has any one out there ever put in a 5speed out of a 87 and up 4x4 in the 78, if they did , do you have to use the newer transfer case and change drive shafts, or can you use the older transfer case
Okay First questions first. It should bolt up after you change the:
Flywheel
BellHousing
Pedals in the cab
add the clutch linkage, it is bolt on as are the pedals
and a NEW clutch.
You will have to change the driveshaft most likley as the C6 has splines on the output shaft and the 4spd (Im assuming a NP435) has a saddle cap for the Ujoint to sit.
As for adding the 5spd, it gets a little more complicated. You will need the 5spd of course, a Hydrolic Clutch, the shifter comes up in a different spot, the driveshaft will be different. And the Tranny needs to come out of a truck that has the same motor as what its going into. If you have a 351w then the tranny needs to comefrom a late model 351w (5.8L)
Thank-you very much for the information, Does that mean the 4 speed tranny and the transfer case from the bronco are not a longer unit bolted together than the pick-up unit? I know in the case of a automatic the bronco as a assembly is a longer unit. Thanks again for the information.
