We've got an '02 150 with the 5.4 Triton V-8 with just under 50K miles (never had it "off road") and an automatic transmission. The problem is this : The truck will sometimes "shudder" while driving uphill at speeds between 35-50mph. I've had suggestion from others that perhaps the electronic sensor on the transmission may be going bad or maybe I'm in need of a transmission flush. It seems to make sense but, I'm not a transmission man and I need to figure it out before the big holday trip next week. I'd appreciate any advice. - Thanks

If you have never had the transmission serviced, it is past due. Make sure they drain the torque converter, the filter is supposed to be reusable, but I would get a new one and make sure you get the correct tranny fluid.
If you snoop around in here you'll find that this is quite a common concern.
Usually the problem is the torque converter clutch shuddering as it locks and unlocks. The cure is to flush the transmission and replace all the fluid with the proper Mercon V that Ford calls for.
Guys, thanks for the advice. It definately gives me a starting point. One more question. Most of technicians down at the dealership should be qualified for that sort maintenance, right? Thanks again guys, you've been a great help.

They should be. If something goes wrong because of a mistake made by the dealer's tech, it should be fixed at no charge. I think when I got my transmission service (full service, not just flushed) it came out to $110 at the dealer.
