That truck could have the same suspension as my dad's 79 Bronco. Does it have dual shocks on each front side? My dad plows with his Bronco and it is stock. Your plow (a Meyer's?) doesn't look like it would weigh more than our Arctic plows we use (Canadian company). You should be fine.

P.S. You don't NEED to paint it. All the salt on the roads will just eat away at the body. Plow trucks aren't supposed to be NICE. You should see the Bronco we plow with. (Pictures in my gallery under DAD'S WORK TRUCKS)
Yes, it's a Meyers 7.5ft. I don't have the dual shocks(that was the towing package?) but it did have A/C(if that made any difference, it did on older cars).
You should be more than fine. I believe our plows are 8 feet and the Bronco handles it fine. In the future if you keep the truck for a while and a spring breaks you can just upgrade them then. I wouldn't worry about it now.
i wouldn't worry about coils....i added air bags to my 85 just because i could, it keeps it from dropping at all excpet for maybe a .5". I run a meyer 7.5 footer
My old F150 dropped about 4-6" when I first put my OLD myers plow on it, so I went to 3/4 ton springs up front (air bags were the best option, but at the time, $$). With the new springs, my front end drops about 2" now, and everything still works great, even after 8 yrs of plowing.
Good luck with the new setup, and if ya get bored, we've already got a couple of feet of snow laying around for you too play with if ya wanna come up north and visit
Well, it's May (Friday) 13 and I think we had our last snowfall yesterday
So... used the old plow again this winter... figure one last season out of it, and here's what she looked like on the front end of the old ford. Think my new rear springs are a bit much (with overloads) as they raise the back end up just enough to loose traction... but... definately needed the 3/4 ton springs on the front end again.
Note: yes, the chain is off in the pic... hit the bank a wee bit too hard and buried it. After two days of shoveling the rock hard bank... got the doors of the truck open (climbed out the window when I got stuck) and around the truck cleared back enough to find the plow again
