drivers side wiper quit....
ok, so I look in my manual- nothing! I know that this is a mechanical fault cause the passenger side wiper is still workin. check under the hood, there is an access plate on the fire wall. Pop that off, take a large socket and remove the wiper arm mechanisim. Well wouldn't 'cha know it- I was hoping that it would be a sheared bolt or something- turns out that its a ball and socket arrangement. I suspect that it has been held in place by a pressed in rubber type of grease seal or something, I can see a small rubber ring of some sort there- anyway, I used a punch to raise some bumps on the "ball" and pushed it back in- worked for a few days. The wrecker was iffy about whether he had parts, and if he did it would be the whole thing, not just one actuating arm
. So I went down to my specialty woodworking store (Lee Valley Tools) and bought some of those rare earth magnets, the 1" size- sorta like a quarter. I put a couple of them behind the socket, and a couple on the arm with the ball- tada!!!! works like a charm
I know this is a "cheat" but I don't have a lot of cash to spend on the old girl - sixteen bucks all told. been a week, lotsa rain, its still holding on. Those magnets will hold a 30 lb direct pull each!
I tried to pull one off, but it took two hands...
I think this is workin!
