Does anybody know the towing capacity of a 90, E350, diesel 7.3 non turbo, E4OD trans, and 3.55 rear? I wanted to tow about 6000 lbs about once a week to various locations. I went to Ford but they couldn't give me an answer. Thanks for your help.
According to the Ford towing guide you will be right at the towing capacity for a cargo van and a little over capacity with a club wagon (with seats). The non-turbo diesel is not rated to tow as much as the 7.5 gas.
Out of the 1990 Ford Towing Guide, your rig, if it is a regular van, is rated at 6400 lbs, super van is rated at 6200 lbs. Changing rear gears to 4:10 will get ya another 2000 lbs towing capacity. Don't know where you can pick one of these guides up, mine comes from a friend that owns a Ford dealership. I was getting them and all of the dealer spec stuff every year but it got to be too much.
Would it help if I bought a weight distributing hitch? I checked the weight of the tractor and the trailer, and together they are 7000#. Or is the problem the engine and transmission? I just got a new trans with the heavy duty converter and upgrades.
